Seeing the Big Picture: Finding Your Place in God's Unfolding Story

Scripture:
"And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself." — Luke 24:27 (NIV)
Reflection:
How often do we find ourselves walking down our own dusty roads of confusion—disillusioned, weary, and struggling to make sense of life’s broken pieces? In Luke 24, two disciples were doing just that. Following the devastating crucifixion and burial of Jesus, they were walking toward a small village called Emmaus, paralyzed by grief and trying to process the shocking collapse of all their hopes. When a traveler stepped up beside them, they were so blinded by their pain that they didn't recognize Him as the risen Jesus Himself.
Like those two travelers, we frequently look at the confusing circumstances of our own daily lives—a sudden trial, an unanswered longing, or sheer emotional exhaustion—and wonder where God is in the middle of it all. We tend to view the Bible, and our lives, as a disconnected collection of moral lessons or isolated stories, missing the overarching narrative that holds everything together.
Yet, on that ordinary walk, Jesus provided a transformative masterclass in biblical truth. He did not offer quick emotional platitudes; instead, He walked them through the Old Testament Scriptures—from the books of Moses to the Prophets—revealing that from the very beginning, the Word of God tells a single, unified story: how the Triune God created a good world, redeemed fallen sinners through Christ, and is renewing all of creation for His eternal glory. As Jesus helped them see how every promise pointed directly to Him, their heavy, confused hearts began to burn with newfound hope and joy.
Understood from our Reformed Theological perspective, God’s Word possesses ultimate authority because it is His infallible self-disclosure—the authoritative blueprint of this grand redemptive story. When we begin to read Scripture through this Christ-centered lens, our daily trials shift in meaning. You are not adrift in a meaningless universe, nor are you required to script your own destiny. As a fallen sinner, saved by grace through faith in Christ alone (Eph 2:8-9), you belong to God’s grand story of creation, redemption, and ultimate restoration. When Christ stands at the center of how you read Scripture, confusion gives way to assurance, and fear turns into purposeful hope.
Call to Action / Application:
Intentionally connect with a brother or sister in Christ today —whether through a phone call, a shared meal, or prayer together—to cultivate authentic, covenantal fellowship within your church family.
Prayer:
Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us out of darkness and adopting us into Your eternal family through Jesus Christ. Forgive us for the times we treat faith as a personal pursuit rather than a shared covenant life. Deepen our devotion to Your Word, to true fellowship, to the sacraments, and to prayer. Transform our hearts so that our life together reflects Your generous, welcoming love to a watching world. In Jesus' name, Amen.
