If you believe that the resurrection of Jesus is just about the promise of eternal life after death, you need to know that there are more benefits that you have access to now!  In 1 Corinthians 15:12-28, the Apostle Paul touches on the promises, or the assurances, of the resurrection.

Because of your profession of faith in Jesus’ and sincere belief in His resurrection, you are assured of:

  • Having hope that empowers you to face today’s challenges (v.20). Paul writes that indeed, Jesus was raised from the dead, AND He is the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. When children are taught to plant seeds in soil-filled egg cartons, the first sprout gives them joy and hope for more sprouts!  The hope inspired by Jesus’ resurrection empowers us to continue through any challenge, threat, heartbreak, or loss. We know that there is a resurrection ahead of us on the timeline of our lives! What a promise and power!

  • Trusting what is real (v. 15) Paul writes that if Jesus didn’t rise, those who preached about the resurrection misrepresented God. It would mean that the whole story of God in scripture would be a lie, but here’s the truth: Because many people saw Jesus alive, we have certainty that what the Bible tells us about God, ourselves, how to live, and our future is true! What a promise!

  • Knowing now that death doesn’t win (v. 26), Paul writes that death is the last enemy to be destroyed.  Because of Jesus’ resurrection, and Him being the firstfruits and us following Him, death no longer has the final say for the believer. What a promise!

  • Being connected now to the King of Everything (v. 27) Many people are touched by loneliness or feelings of abandonment. Faith in Jesus and His resurrection dissolves loneliness. Paul writes, “For God has put all things in subjection under His feet.” Jesus is at the top of the chart of all things. He is the King of kings! And because we believe in Him and His resurrection, we are in a relationship with Him as His subjects.

Let’s consider this further. If you abide in Jesus’ Lordship, you have a King who is your protector, provider, and advocate. You are, and will remain, connected to Him. But, as for ALL OTHER THINGS that defy His Lordship, like the flesh, the world, and the devil, cannot separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus.

The resurrection is more than a promise of life after death.  It gives you hope, confidence in what and who to trust, courage in the face of death, and a living King who is your provider, protector, and advocate at the throne of Heaven.  Choose this day to worship and serve your risen Savior!

It's a great day to live the Gospel!

God willing, we hope to see you on Sundays!
