During last Sunday's sermon, Pastor Jeremy guided us through the story of the Apostle Paul on his final journey by ship. A storm arose, and the ship was wrecked along the island coast of Malta. Paul ministered to the crew and passengers with unwavering faith in the Lord's watchful care. This story holds significance for us when we encounter life's storms. You are encouraged to listen to the sermon, which urges us to trust in God's promises, fulfilled in Jesus, our unwavering source of calm and peace. Click here for the sermon.

In his conclusion, Pastor Jeremy led us through the lyrics of a modern-day hymn we often sing at FPCB. It was written by Matt Papa and Matt Boswell and is entitled "Christ the Sure and Steady Anchor." The hymn teaches us to hold steadfastly to Jesus amidst the storms of life.

In his brief description of the hymn, Matt Papa writes:

"Playing up the metaphor of the sea, storms and the wind, the song is crafted around the idea of holding onto Christ (the Anchor) when trials are high in our lives. The first verse opens with the singer sinking in the midst of their storm. The next few verses remind us that, as the strength of the tempest grows, so does the ability of Christ as the anchor to root in deeper while we cling to him; despite temptation, weakness and unbelief, we are assured of Christ's steadfastness."

When the storms of life take us off course and even wreck us, it's crucial to have a strong faith supported by scripture, prayer, worship, the Lord's Supper, and singing. Even if you're busy, take a moment to listen to the song. May it inspire and motivate you to cling to Christ, the Anchor of your soul.
